Katie Price ‘should be jailed’ says Tory MP as he calls for tougher sentences

A Tory MP has called for stricter penalties for serial driving offenders – singling out Katie Price

James Wild, the MP for North West Norrfold, also suggested the former glamour model “should be jailed” after escaping prison once again this week. The 45-year-old star has been disqualified from driving six times over the past decade.

On Tuesday (March 11), she received eight penalty points on her licence and got handed a bill of £1,852 in fines and charges after she was caught driving without valid insurance or a driver’s licence.

In response to her recent transgression, Mr Wild, who looks after the area where Katie was apprehended for illegal driving, demanded tougher punishment for individuals accumulating a lengthy tally of driving offences. He proposed an overhaul of the system to permit jail terms if a specific number of convictions are reached.

He told MailOnline: “The public would rightly expect repeat driving offenders to get maximum sentences for reckless behaviour. Unlimited fines can be imposed for driving without insurance and, in some cases, the vehicle being seized. The penalty in this case fails to recognise how serious driving offences are. Ultimately, we need to look at custodial sentences for serial offenders.” Daily Star has contacted Katie’s team for a response.

Katie, who is a mother to five children, has a history of driving mishaps dating back to 2003, including speeding, handling her phone while driving, operating the wheel while banned or uninsured, and drunk driving. Her most serious driving violation occurred in September 2021 when she was hauled in near her Sussex residence post her BMW flipping over. She confessed to drinking and driving without an insurance or licence at the time.

Yet she avoided jail and got instead a 16-week suspended sentence and an order to carry out 100 hours of community service, despite the judge remarking that she “could have killed somebody”, reports the Mirror. In her Channel 4 documentary titled Katie Price: Trauma And Me, Katie looked back at the harrowing car accident and expressed her relief that no one was harmed, including herself.

She said: “In September 2021, I saw my life come crashing down. I got myself in a situation so many times and I end up going off like a firework. It was a total nightmare and I hit rock bottom. I couldn’t give a s**t if I lived or died. I was really in a bad way. I’ve been struggling with my mental health for some time. I’ve been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I’ve got anxiety, depression, major trauma.”

“That night of the drink driving, I only had about two weeks to get my licence. With one of my ex-husbands I had one of my children on the phone saying; ‘Dad won’t let me see you now’. That was the final thing for me. I live in the countryside and I can’t go out. I needed to talk to someone, I had no outlet. There was a reason why I got in the car, why my head was like that.”

Later, Katie appeared on GB News and admitted that there was “no excuse” for her behaviour. She revealed: “I did hit rock bottom. I’ve tried to kill myself. I could not have got any more bottom that I did.” The star is now in a better place and is working on improving herself.
