Ed Balls interrupts Good Morning Britain co-star as he fumes over tech error

Ed Balls caused Good Morning Britain to go into meltdown after stopping the show due to a technical mishap.

Balls, 57, returned to host the ITV morning programme on Monday (March 18) after a couple of weeks away from the show. He was joined by regular GMB anchor Susanna Reid as the pair ran through the main stories making the headlines.

During the show, it was time for the entertainment segment, presented by regular reporter Richard Arnold. Ever the gossip, Arnold let fans in on all the goings on at the Celebrity Big Brother house, as well as some added information about a host of other shows.

One of the programmes Arnold had turned his attention to was BBC medical drama Casualty. With the show going for nearly 40 years, the show was all set for a huge twist that involved legendary professional Charlie Fairhead leaving the programme.

Arnold explained this further as he recapped the tension fans felt about watching the show in the run-up to actor Derek Thompson’s final scenes on the programme. However, as Richard went into detail on the storyline, host Ed began to look progressively more nervous.

“Another classic TV character popped up this weekend,” Arnold explained. “Fans tuning into Casualty this week did so with trepidation as it looked like chief nurse Charlie – who has starred on the BBC drama since day one of the show in 1986 – might have been stabbed by a drug dealer during last week’s show.”

As Richard carried on, Ed then interjected as he could not let himself be spoiled on what the show could hold. “Don’t ruin it!” Ed exclaimed as Arnold prefaced it with a ‘spoiler alert’.

“Don’t ruin it, I’ve not seen it!” Balls added, sending the studio into an awkward moment of silence as they quickly decided what to do. But Arnold, thinking on his feet, quipped: “Viewers took to social media, on that note, to declare that they were in floods of tears watching their favourite ailing medic at the hospital.”

Richard then said: “And we’re just gonna park it there, Ed, so it gives you a chance to catch up.” However, things went from bad to worse for the former Labour politician, as he admitted that his technology was not playing ball.

“I’ve tried twice and I couldn’t get the iPlayer to work!” Ed admitted. Reid chimed in, joking that he has been stuck in the flashbacks, laughing with Arnold as Ed took a more serious tone: “You don’t have this on ITVX, I didn’t know what was going on last week and I still don’t know today!”

Richard then tried to tie off the item as Ed continued to sound off on the lack of technical savviness he has. However, Arnold was quick to divert attention away to a different clip of Susanna Reid acting in her younger years, much to Balls’ surprise.

Good Morning Britain airs weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
