Stacey Dooley says she still hasn’t used a lift in 22 years since she got stuck in one in Spain as a child.
The documentary maker and former Strictly winner, revealing how she’d climbed 16 flights of stairs for an interview for Radio 2, said: “I took the stairs up here. I’m not into lifts.
“I got stuck in a lift when I was probably about 15, in Benidorm, and ever since I can’t get in a lift. I did the eight floors, actually 16 flights, because there’s two per floor.”

But Dooley said despite winning the 16th series of Strictly in 2018, she found the stairs a struggle as she’s lost her past fitness. She added: “I’m on the eighth floor and I was completely out of breath by the time I got to the top so I don’t know if I’d make it round a dance floor.”
Dooley, 37, who had daughter Minnie with her former dance partner and now boyfriend Kevin Clifton 14 months ago, said she does like to spend time dancing around her kitchen still, but revealed Clifton isn’t too keen as he’s “not really into” dancing. She said: “Kev’s a funny one, I love dancing, but he’s not really into it if he’s not being paid.
“If I say to him ‘Ooh, can we have a quick dance around the kitchen, will we practice my frame?’ He’ll entertain me briefly for a couple of minutes, and then back on the sofa watching F1. Romance isn’t dead.”
Stacey took Kevin and Minnie to America with her when she filmed her new series Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over. She wasn’t ready to leave her 14-month-old daughter behind, so she brought her family along for the adventure.
She posted a snap of their trailer, which they’ve named “Minnie Winnie” and said: “I had to hire an entire trailer and drag it across America.” She went on: “I just wasn’t ready to be away from Minnie. Kev had to live in here for 3 weeks reading the same tiger book over and over”.
Her new show is all about staying with different families for 72 hours to see how they live, but this time, she’s filmed the series in America. Before, she’s stayed with people like Reece Oliver, who has rescued lions and monkeys at his place in Nottinghamshire.
