The semi-finals of the BBC game show aired on Saturday (March 23) and saw four contenders return to take on the gladiators. The contestants had a gruelling five events to take on, the first being Duel.

Halfway through, Giant’s pugil stick appeared to land on Wesley’s podium. Fans immediately questioned whether Giant’s hand also found its way onto the platform for balance, which would be a clear breach of the rules.

Wesley was knocked off with just one second to go, leaving Giant victorious. But after the event, presenter Barney Walsh explained that Giant could be disqualified after his pugil stick landed on Wesley’s platform.

They were forced to bring referee Mark Clattenburg in to watch the replay. He determined that there was no rule break as Giant immediately picked his pugil stick back up and continued fighting.

Fans were furious over the decision as they swarmed social media to share their thoughts. One fumed: “That should have been a Contender Win!!! Giant put his hand on Wesley’s podium!!!!”

Another claimed: “Giant’s hand touched Wesley’s podium. Watched it slowly.” A third agreed: “Well I would say that the referee made the wrong decision there on #Gladiators, Giant touched Wesley’s podium and contenders have been DQ’d for that in the past.”

“BULLS**T call from Clattenburg on that Duel there. Contestants will need to start hiring John Anderson to do grumpy press interviews about crap officiating,” another raging fan penned. Someone else simply declared: “That’s robbery Clattenberg.”

Echoing this, another said: “I demand a review of Clattenburg’s nonsense decision there.” Despite missing out on the 10 points, Wesley made it through to next week’s grand final.
