Will Mellor opens up about why he turned down returning to Channel 4’s Hollyoaks

Will Mellor turned down a big-money deal to return to Hollyoaks.

Bosses were keen for him to reprise his role as fan favourite James “Jambo” Bolton but he wasn’t keen. He said: “The producers mentioned the idea of me returning a while back, but there wasn’t much reason for me to go back.

“I don’t like to go backwards, I like to go forward.” Despite his decision, Will isn’t ruling out a comeback in the future because he still loves the show.

He said: “You never say never to anything. I am so grateful to Hollyoaks. I’ll always be in debt to that show. It was the show that changed my life.

“The part of Jambo helped me live the dream I’ve lived ever since.” Will is now starring on rival Corrie as villain Harvey Gaskell.

The hunk is thrilled he’s had the chance to be a soap star again. He said: “Soaps have a bit of a bad reputation, but there are so many great actors who do them. The turnaround is unbelievable.

“You have to learn so much dialogue and sometimes you’re doing 14 scenes in a day compared to about four on a drama. To get the quantity and quality is tough. Soap actors deserve a lot of respect. It’s a tough gig.”

Will is also carving out a new career as a presenter. His latest project is the true crime series Cops Gone Bad, which continues tonight at 9pm on Crime+ Investigation.
