Antiques Roadshow’s ‘youngest-ever guest’ gobsmacked by value of ‘genie lamp’

Antiques Roadshow’s youngest guest was left speechless when he found out the huge value of a genie lamp he picked up for free.

A schoolboy, who might just be the “youngest-ever guest” on Antiques Roadshow, couldn’t believe his luck with the price of a genie lamp. The lad was shocked to learn how much a “genie lamp” he found by the road was really worth.

He saw the shiny silver thing while walking home from school and thought it could be worth something but he didn’t know just how special it was. He told everyone how he was coming home from school with his dad when he spotted what looked like an old teapot in a box with a ‘free’ sign next to it.

The boy saw a G on it, which is the same as the first letter of his name, so he decided to take it home. He called it a genie lamp and said he had always wanted to be on TV since he was five.

Lagina Austin, the expert on Antiques Roadshow, told him more about the lamp. She said it was made of sterling silver and was actually for coffee, not tea, reports the Mirror.

If someone wanted to sell it, they would have to take off the ivory handles. She said: “It’s what they call a demitasse pot, which would be used for coffee rather than tea. And this was probably part of a set.”

A young lad couldn’t believe his ears when an expert told him that a silver lamp he found was worth loads of cash. The expert said: “And the G on there is probably a family name of whoever this belonged to at one point. You’re right that it’s sterling silver.”

She spotted a “laurel wreath and the sword” mark, showing it was made by Wilcox and Wagner, a fancy silver company from New York that stopped making things in 1905. She guessed that the cool genie lamp might get £200 to £300 if sold.

The boy was super shocked about how much his roadside discovery could be worth, saying: “Wow for something I found on the side of the road. That’s amazing.”

The video of this went super viral on TikTok, with people loving the boy’s lucky find. One person wrote: “This child has the enunciation I have been trying to achieve for 53 years,” while another said: “Such a smart and articulate young man.”
