This Morning’s Ben Shephard proposes to co-star live on air – then remembers his wife

This Morning turned awkward as host Ben Shephard accidentally proposed to his co-star live on air – before remembering he already has a wife.

Things were off to a strange start on Tuesday (March 26) as chef Fitwaffle – real name Eloise Head – appeared on the programme to show fans how to make her no-bake Easter cheesecake with vanilla honey fudge. Ben was head over heels for the tasty recipe, and appeared to make a slip as he asked: “Eloise, so you are married?”

Seemingly stunned, Eloise replied: “Yes, I am married! You like it that much, do you?” Ben quickly clammed up and started shovelling cake into his mouth instead, telling her: “I mean… It’s lovely.”

Giggling, Ben quickly added: “Oh yeah… so is my wife, by the way! And Gok, who I’m also proposing to.” His co-star Cat Deeley joked: “Oh wow, you’re all over the place!” Thankfully it all seemed in good humour, with plenty of giggles from the cast.

Fans couldn’t believe what they were hearing as they flocked to X – formerly Twitter – to share their thoughts. One penned: “Ben Shepherd is moving mad, asking if a woman if married whilst he’s married himself!” Another echoed: “I bet Ben’s wife loved the fact he just asked another woman if she was married.”

Someone else fretted: “Gosh you don’t need to pay Ben, just give him food! Acting like he’s been starved for weeks.” Another said: “Does anyone feed Ben at home, the man’s always starving?!”

Ben has been married to his wife Annie Perks since 2004, and the pair are set to celebrate their 20th anniversary this year. Annie and Ben met while they were both still students, and while she prefers to stay out of the spotlight, Annie also works in media and runs her own blog called The House Editor.

The pair crossed paths while studying at the University of Birmingham together, and started dating in 1995. They went on to welcome two sons together, Jack and Sam.

Celebrating their wedding anniversary in 2020, Ben wrote a heartfelt message to his beloved, telling her: “Can’t quite believe another year has gone past, suddenly this one feels all the more poignant because of what’s happening. 16 years married to @mrsannieshephard 25 years together and it’s fair to say the current climate is seriously testing the strength of her feelings towards me.”

Eloise, meanwhile, married her “rock” in 2022, posting a sweet tribute to her husband Bernie online which read: “My husband is my rock, my co-eater, my business partner, my everything.

“No one disagrees with me more than this guy (which means he’s also really annoying), but I love him for that also. He can’t bake yet, so doesn’t help there, but we can address this in year two.”
