BBC Breakfast presenter issues apology to viewers after making awkward on-air blunder

Rachel Burden has issued an apology to BBC Breakfast viewers.

The 49-year-old presenter was back on the famous red sofa on Easter Sunday (March 31) with co-host Ben Thompson as they discussed the latest headlines from across the world.

The pair woke up the nation with the latest news, weather and sport including the decline in the number of seagulls in the UK. They read out stories sent in by viewers about their experiences with the birds.

After saying she “loved” hearing the tales sent in by fans, Rachel read: “Steve has been in touch and he said he was attacked by a seagull while eating a very expensive burger on a day out in Minehead and was left with a scar above his eye. Sorry, that’s not funny. That’s quite serious.” Ben added: “That has everything that story doesn’t it.”

It comes after Naga Munchetty hosted the Saturday’s (March 30) edition of the morning show with Roger Johnson after her co-stars Ben Thompson and Charlie Stayt were nowhere to be seen. Naga had been hosting the show with Ben Thompson throughout the week while Charlie was off this week, and viewers appeared to be really enjoying them together.

But when people switched on their TVs on Saturday (March 30) morning, they saw Naga with Roger instead of Ben, who was also off for the Easter break and they share the big news of the day with viewers watching at home.

They chatted with weather presenter Matt Taylor too who told told fans what the forecast will be like over Easter, saying there might be some rain and clouds by the sea on Saturday and it could get a bit frosty as we get ready for British Summer Time. Naga is expected to have Sunday off as well, because she and Charlie usually don’t work that day.

Sally Nugent and Jon Kay host Breakfast Monday to Wednesday while Naga and Charlie present the programme Thursday to Saturday and a rolling rota of presenters usually host the Sunday edition of the morning show.
