GMB’s Richard Madeley fuming at cyclist as pair almost collide in horror crash

Richard Madeley nearly knocked over a cyclist in London and got into a heated exchange with him afterwards.

The 67-year-old Good Morning Britain (GMB) host was driving at night in Regent’s Park earlier this year when he nearly went into the back of the bloke on the bicycle. Richard said he hadn’t spotted the cyclist at first as the man had no lights on his bike and wasn’t wearing any reflective clothing.

Luckily, Richard had only been driving at 18mph and eventually saw the bloke so managed to break before hitting him. Had the pair collided, it could have been a nasty, potentially fatal, accident.

But the presenter was fuming with the cyclist and gave him a piece of his mind. And it seems the rider wasn’t too happy with Richard, either.

Richard told of his road rage on Wednesday (April 3) on Good Morning Britain, where he was hosting with Charlotte Hawkins. The pair discussed the government’s crackdown on LED headlights that are so bright, they dazzle other drivers, and Richard revealed he wears special glasses to reduce glare on the road.

“I’ve got special glasses you can wear which cuts the dazzle down,” he said. “I nearly went into the back of a cyclist in the dark in Regent’s Park about three months ago.

“It was raining, it was very, very dark. It’s a beautifully lit part of Regent’s Park but it’s quite dim, and there were three cars coming towards me, all dazzlingly bright, and the cyclist who had no lights on his bike, he was in black clothes, he had no reflective stuff on his bike at all.

“So he was partly responsible for what happened, and I just couldn’t see him. Luckily I was doing about 18mph and I just saw this figure at the last minute through the glare and I managed to break and stop.”

Richard then explained he and the cyclist had a go at one another, adding: “I told him off for not having lights on his bike, and he told me off for telling him off, and anyway, that’s another story.” Charlotte and co-star Sean Fletcher couldn’t help laughing at the mishap before the trio moved on with the rest of the show.
