Benidorm actor confirms hidden scene with major star that never made it on air

Benidorm star Tony Maudsley has revealed the existence of a ‘secret’ scene that never made it on air – and it featured a huge star.

The iconic British comedy series aired from 2007 until 2018, with Tony playing the camp Kenneth Du Beke alongside stars like Jake Canuso and Janine Duvitski. In a twist of fate, X Factor star Rylan was also set to make an appearance – but his part was sadly cut.

In a sweet Instagram post, Tony posed alongside Rylan with his arm around his back, alongside fellow co-star Adam Gillen. Rylan looked coiffed as ever in a grey tank-top bearing his initials in black, while Tony rocked his red Blow & Go t-shirt which bore the words: “Let me tend to your split end”.

In the caption, Coronation Street star Tony explained: “When Rylan came to Benidorm. We filmed a brilliant scene with him in Blow & Go which ended up not making the final cut in the episode (as often happens) but he was an absolute joy even then.”

He went on to share another snap, writing: “One day they’ll dig out that cut scene you came and did and show it to the world! I might start a campaign (I bet they wouldn’t cut it now)!” Rylan was quick to respond, quipping: “Haha mate I swear in my head I feel like I made it up lol!”

Fans were quick to head over to the comments section to discuss what could have been, with one writing: “Oh what a shame… but great pic! Really miss Benidorm it was amazing. We need a Kenneth Du Beke in Corrie.” Another echoed: “Omg would love to have seen the clip bet you guys had a riot filming.”

Someone else gushed: “Can we find the original part, it would be good to watch.” And a fourth fan penned: “Omg how could they have cut Rylan?! That would have been a classic episode!”

It comes after show mastermind Derren Litten announced he will be returning to screenwriting in a new role, releasing a statement to his X account which confirmed: “It’s been a difficult decision but I have decided to return to writing for both television and theatre.

“I have had clear, recent indications that certain TV channels are interested in my decision and I hope you will be watching the fruits of my labour in time to come. Obviously, there are always rumours surrounding such announcements but I would like to make it clear that my decision to come out of retirement is purely to spend less time with my family.”

Fans reckoned it could mean more Benidorm is coming after the comedy’s cancellation more than five years ago, with one gushing: “Brilliant news! I hope that includes a new series of Benidorm.” Another echoed: “You could make my 2024 by saying you’re working on a return for Benidorm. I need Kenneth and Liam.”
