Gogglebox sisters’ candid admission on show future after being ‘mobbed in street’

Gogglebox sisters Amira and Amani Rota get mobbed by their fans.

It has made them so famous they get spotted all the time when they’re out and about. They can’t even do their day jobs without people coming up to them.

Amira told me: “We get recognised everywhere. I’m a retail manager and it happens to me when I’m at work. I get kids coming up to me. It even happened in Greece!”

Amani added: “I work in customer service and my manager loves to show off about me to everyone. It’s so strange going to places and having people recognise you – it’s like an out of body experience.”

The siblings have been on the show for years but are still getting used to fame. Amira said: “It’s only starting to sink in now. It’s still hard to believe it all. We are slowly getting used to it.”

Thankfully all the attention hasn’t put them off the TV programme though. While many of Gogglebox’s most popular stars have quit over the years to do rival shows, the girls have no plans to leave.

Amira said: “We really enjoy doing the show. It’s been part of me growing up. It’s made me more comfortable with who I am. I love that. And I love that other people resonate with me. That’s the main thing for me.”

Amani added: “It’s part of our life now. I definitely want to keep doing it.”

The series continues on Friday at 9pm, Channel 4.
