Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga has admitted she thought the earthquake that recently struck New York was actually a ghost.
The magnitude 4.8 earthquake was felt across New York and the surrounding areas this week, with TV star Melissa’s home one of those affected. However, she didn’t initially realise that the shaking was a quake and wondered whether something a little spookier was going on.
Melissa told Entertainment Tonight that she was home alone and working out in her gym when the rumbling started and that it sounded as if the house was being “invaded”.

“I have weights in my hands, and I was like, ‘What is happening?'” said the TV star. “It sounded like my roof was shaking, the floor was shaking, and it really did sound like a stampede, like people were running, running, running.”
Melissa said she “froze” because she was nervous. And it didn’t help that she received an alert saying that her front door was open.
“I was freaking out a little bit…” she said of the whole experience. “And as I’m walking back down my basement steps to finish my workout, I’m like, ‘Wow! Like, I’ve never experienced a ghost before, like, maybe that was a ghost’.”
The star also posted about her experience on Instagram, telling fans that she did call the emergency services. “EARTHQUAKE in NJ! Omg!!” she wrote.
“I just went running up my stairs from the basement/working out while calling 911 because it sounded like a stampede was going on upstairs and then I got a notification on my phone that my front door was open! I was freaking out! That was a first!”
The earthquake struck on Friday (5 April) and the epicentre was said to be near Lebanon, New Jersey. The force was enough to make buildings in New York shake and reports suggested that more than 40 million people may have experienced the earthquake.
