Eurovision is set to be spooked by a real-life witch.
Ireland’s act Bambie Thug has been following witchcraft for years. The singer told the Daily Star: “My heritage is pagan and I practise witchcraft. I’m a goth bitch. I am the witch of Eurovision.
“I spend a lot of time with my energy and thinking about the energy that I am putting out. I make sure it’s nothing bad so nothing bad comes back to me. And I live very consciously and very present as much as I can.”

Bambie is keen to dispel some of the myths around witches. The star reckons many people have the wrong impression about them. Hitting back, Bambie said: “People misunderstand that most people have an innate power that they haven’t touched into. It’s just a personal power. I’m not going out and drinking any blood or anything. I’m just practising good energy.”
Bambie thinks being a witch has helped land a spot at Eurovision, which is being held in Abba’s home country of Sweden 50 years after the band won the contest. The 31-year-old will sing entry Doomsday Blue at the contest next month in a bid to secure Ireland’s first victory since 1996. Bambie said: “The way I live my life has been very handy so far. I’m an independent artist and now I’m doing Eurovision.”
Bambie performed for thousands of fans at the London Eurovision Party on Sunday. Olly Alexander is set to represent the United Kingdom in the competition in May. It was confirmed last year that the Years & Years star will fly the flag for Britain with It’s A Sin’s Olly announcing the news live on Strictly Come Dancing.
Olly co-wrote the Euroviison song Dizzy with Danny L Harle, who recently produced Dua Lipa’s comeback hit ‘Houdini’ alongside Tame Impala leader Kevin Parker.
Having explained that he had wanted to do Eurovision for “a long time”, Alexander discussed his entry in an interview with the BBC. “It’s gonna be electronic, something you can dance to,” he said. But I can’t say much more than that. I just can’t wait to get out there and meet the fans and everyone else taking part. It’s going to be the wildest experience of my life.”
He also told the BBC that it marked the beginning of releasing music under his own name, adding that he had “wanted to do it for a while” and it “felt like this was the right time to start releasing music under my name”. Eurovision 2024 will take place on Saturday, May 11 in Malmö, Sweden.
