Home and Away icon Matt Evans has opened up on the strenuous process of performing in sex scenes.
With his character Theo Poulo having proven himself a hit with the ladies on the show, the actor has had more than his fair share of tough sequences to shoot, but luckily, he has an intimacy coordinator on hand to help him with whatever he needs.
As is common practice on many sets, the performers on the Australian soap have the opportunity to converse with an expert, who can help them establish boundaries and ensure they feel comfortable with what is about to occur.

Matt’s character certainly isn’t lacking confidence, having previously entered into a relationship with Chloe Anderson (Sam Barrett) and is currently dating Kirby Aramoana (Angelina Thomson), meaning intimate scenes aren’t out of the norm during his shifts.
Therefore, he is in a strong position to explain that speaking with an intimacy coordinator is an “important step” for everyone involved.
In an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, he explained: “They will basically get you into the room, and you talk about what you are comfortable with, what you’re not comfortable with, [and teach] the simple things, [like] asking permission before you touch each other.”
He continued: “You’re touching each other’s hands, shoulders, things like that. And then we’ll do basic things of [going] through…where you like to be touched, and not like to be touched. It’s pretty essential, and it’s a very good thing to have.”
In addition, the cast can always complete a sheet, in which they have the opportunity to list how comfortable they were being asked to complete different actions, which can then essentially provide feedback for producers to adhere to for future scenes, to ensure the actors feel as safe as possible.
Furthermore, upon receiving the script, the pair of actors involved have the opportunity to converse and potentially remove scenes they feel uncomfortable with.
Matt revealed: “A lot of the time, you’ll probably chat with your partner about it beforehand, [saying], ‘Hey, if there’s a kiss scripted here, we could do that’.
“Or sometimes, if it’s not scripted, you might want to put one in there just for effect, and you can talk to each other about that. It definitely makes it a lot easier.”
