EastEnders’ Rita Simons has teased a potential return to the soap – and now fans have ‘worked out’ when it could be.
The actress, shot to fame playing Roxy Mitchell on the BBC soap – making her debut in 2007. Along with her sister, Ronnie (Samantha Womack) the pair quickly became firm-favourites.
And it’s fair to say Roxy played a part in several big storylines. From her doomed marriages to becoming the landlady of the Queen Vic, her time in Albert Square was not short of drama.

However, in 2017, Roxy and Ronnie were tragically killed off after 10 years on the soap. In one of the soap’s most controversial episodes ever, the sisters met their untimely deaths by drowning together on Ronnie’s wedding day.
Since then, Rita has kept busy, and this year, she bagged a role on the rival soap Hollyoaks playing Marie Fielding. However, the mum-of-two has now hinted she could be back.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Monday (April 9) Rita was quizzed whether a return could happen. Co-host Ed Balls asked: “Did you actually drown?”
Rita then responded with a coy smile and a cheeky eyebrow raise. Determined to get answers, Ed grilled her further and said: “You could be a Dirty Den returner!”
The TV Star replied: “Listen, [there] was Dirty Den’s return, Michelle [Collins] as Cindy…I think in soap when you get asked to go in a coffin, you say no. I did!
Now, fans are convinced Rita, and Samantha, who played Ronnie, are indeed coming back and reckon they’ll return for the soap’s 40th anniversary next year. Sharing their theory online, one fan wrote: “Reminder that they both spent three years in rival soaps before being brought back from the dead…
“Ronnie and Roxy are back for the 40th anniversary.. mark my words.” A second chimed in and also agreed: “I think they’ll come back. Billy helped them fake it.”
While on X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “Can you imagine the episode before the big week of the 40th…it cuts to Spain where they’ve been since 2017 as a cliffhanger and they’re on screen!!”
Someone else penned: “If Dirty Den can come back from dead, as well Kathy and Cindy then I’m sure they can figure it out the way they can bring them back! They shouldn’t be killed off.”
