EastEnders fans have been left baffled over a soap fact – with one fuming they “didn’t need to know” it.
As viewers will recall, soap alum Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) was recently arrested for credit card fraud from his time in America last year. At first he played to flee with daughter Lexi but he was refused bail and was sent back to the States.
Husband Callum Highway, mum Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and dad Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) were left devastated. But things took a more dramatic turn during Thursday’s instalment (April 11) of the soap.

In the episode, Ben phoned up dad Phil from the US to tell him he had been sentenced for six years behind bars. Phil then informed Kathy who was heartbroken at the news.

However, viewers of the long-running BBC soap have realised a major fact that has left plenty of them stunned. Fans online have pointed out how when Ben gets released in 2030, mum Kathy will be 80.
Gobsmacked, fans rushed over to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts about it. One person said: “Do you want your heads wrecked?
“I’ve just deeped that Kathy will be EIGHTY YEARS OLD by the time Ben gets out of prison. 80 !!!!!!!!!!! Wtf man?” they added. A second viewer replied: “And she will still look amazing.” A third penned: “Wow I didn’t need to know that.”
Another wrote: “Why would you say this?” A fifth chimed in and proclaimed: “Oh my god.”

While Kathy is 74 on the soap, fans will be stunned to learn that actress Gillian is 68. She first burst onto screens playing Kathy in 1985, quickly becoming a favourite and staple on the soap.
And it’s fair to say Kathy had had a rather eventful time in Walford. From her rocky relationship with Phil Mitchell to coming back to Walford after everyone thought she had died in a car crash, her storylines have left BBC soap viewers on the edge of their seats.
