BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty fumes ‘you don’t know me’ over star’s ‘ridiculous’ comment

BBC Breakfast presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were clearly unimpressed with a reporter’s outfit suggestions ahead of the Grand National.

Beeb journalist Ben Boulos was on location in The Wirral on Friday morning (April 12) covering a segment on how the wet start to 2024 has impacted small businesses such as garden centres. It was at the end of his report, meanwhile, that he issued his fashion faux pas.

“We are just up the road from Aintree,” explained Ben. “If you’re on your way and you’re lacking a hat, you could pick this up – I think this would look rather good on you, Naga,” he continued, holding up a pink ladies’ hat suitable for the races.

“I wouldn’t want Charlie to feel left out, so I’ve picked something out for him as well. If you’re worried about the wet weather I think those would look rather fetching on you,” he joked, holding up a navy blue wellington with a floral design.

Naga hit out: “Ben, I think we need to spend more time together so you can get to know us a bit better. That’s my thinking.” Ben responded: “Okay, what about the other way around – you want the wellies, Charlie wants the hat.”

“There you go,” laughed Naga. Charlie interjected: “Also Ben, I can’t tell what the hat looks like until it’s on someone’s head.” Joining in the fun, Ben replied: “Oh go on, you’re asking me to model are you,” as he put the hat on. Back in the studio, Naga laughed: “It’s ridiculous! I wish I could say you wear it well.”

Last week Naga admitted she’s felt compelled to hide the “constant, nagging pain” she feels because of her health condition.

The 49-year-old was diagnosed with adenomyosis in 2022, a condition that occurs when the lining of the uterus grows deep into the muscle of the womb. It can cause pain in your pelvic area, heavy bleeding during your period and other symptoms.

Revealing she felt she had to smile through the pain, Naga told Metro: “I have done all my life: through my GCSEs, through my A-Levels, through my degree, and every job I had. No one wants to be seen as weak. I don’t think that now.

“It’s much more manageable and because I’ve spoken so publicly about it if I really am struggling, I can say “I’m struggling”, and I know the people I need to say that to will recognise that I only say it when I really am. I don’t worry about being seen as someone who is using it as an excuse to not work.”
