Netflix fans have been left speechless by a new thriller series.
Someone posted the series’ promo posted in the Netflix Bangers Facebook group and wrote: “Despite the Baby Reindeer title, there is nothing cute about this mini series. A disturbing true story – incredible acting by Richard Gadd & Jessica Gunning. Not for the faint of heart,” they warned.
Many in the comment section said that they “didn’t realise it was based on a true story” while someone else wrote: “When she confronted him at night under the bridge…omg, I was disturbed. I have never seen anything like that, that’s like a woman against a man. It broke my damn heart. I can’t imagine how many other men it’s happened to. I’ve literally never seen it played out like that before on television. So sad.”

Someone else said: “Loved it but had to shake off a lot of it. Very heavy stuff,” while another Facebook user added: “Just watching this now and it’s good [thumbs up emoji].” More people branded the series “dark, twisted and brilliantly acted,” “addictive viewing,” “so, so good” and “phenomenal”.
One Netflix streamer even said that they’d “binged it all in one go” while someone else couldn’t stomach the series and wrote: “I had to turn it off halfway through episode 4, it was [too] hard to watch.”
The show is a British drama-thriller series based on a play of the same name, which is based on a true story. Struggling comedian Donny is friends with a woman named Martha, but as the story unravels her friendly demeanour turns sour.
Seven episodes tell the story, which is available to watch on Netflix as of 11 April. Richard Gadd plays Donny, Jessica Gunning as Martha and Nava Mau as Teri.
It was originally announced way back in December 2020 and it took three years for director Weronika Tofilska to join the project. Filming reportedly began in August 2022 and wrapped in March 2023.
Critics have given the series praise and is “universally acclaimed” thanks to an average score of 83 on Metacritic.
