EastEnders fans are not too happy after the soap has hinted at a new romance on the soap.
Over in Walford recently, copper Callum Highway (Tony Clay) has been left heartbroken after husband Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) got himself arrested. It was revealed that Ben committed credit card fraud during his time in America last year.
As a result, he was sent back to the States – leaving Callum, mum Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and dad Phil (Steve McFadden) devastated. And last week, the family was dealt more heartbreak.

Kathy was told that Ben had been sentenced to six years behind bars in America. However, viewers are yet to see Callum’s reaction as he wasn’t present in the episode. But now, fans reckon they know who Callum will move on to next – and they’ve been left fuming about it.
As viewers will recall, Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) rocked up the square earlier this year to help with mum Linda’s alcoholism following the murder of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) at Christmas. He met up with Ben, who was in the soap at the time, and Callum for a drink – with Johnny even flirting with Ben.
However, with Ben now behind bars and Johnny struggling with his mum, it seems Callum and Johnny could be set to cry on each other’s shoulders. What’s more, the soap even teased their potential romance on social media recently.
Taking to the soap’s Instagram page, the show uploaded a snap of pic of actors Tony and Charlie – who had his finger over his lips – in the Queen Vic. The post caused an uproar online, with many not wanting their romance to happen.
One person said: “Screw this and bring back Callum’s husband and the incomparable Max Bowden.” Someone else warned they will switch off, as they proclaimed: “If they get together I’m never watching again. Bring Callum’s husband back!”
Another fan pointed out how Johnny and Callum are like ‘brothers’ as Johnny’s dad Mick Carter (Danny Myers) looked after Callum and was there for him over the years.
The viewer wrote: “Please no!” Along with the hashtag brothers. A second penned: “Callum’s more like Johnny’s brother considering how he considered mick a dad.” A third wrote: “Wouldn’t Johnny and Callum be weird given they knew each other since they were kids and grew up as brothers.”
However, other fans were totally for Callum and Johnny’s potential new romance. One viewer gushed: “We NEED them together!” A second penned: “Much better suited.”
