BBC bosses have confirmed they will delay the upload of EastEnders on iPlayer to make way for a “history making” change.
In a post shared on their social media, producers at the smash BBC soap had said that there would be a delay to the release of the latest episode, leaving fans devastated. However, they explained that their editors would be hard at work gathering the latest footage to put into their programme.
On Sunday (April 21), camera crews were seen on Tower Bridge as some of the cast of the show were stood supporting their fellow actor friends as they ran the London Marathon. But what many fans did not know was that the actors who were running in the race were doing so in character too, with a scene of them meeting their pals on the bridge set to be included in the latest episode of the show.

As part of Jay and Honey’s ongoing storyline, actors Jamie Borthwick and Emma Barton took on the challenge of running the 26-mile-long race. The pair were raising money for a number of charities in real life, including ones that focus on brain tumours – the main issue affecting Jay and Emma on the soap currently.

As a result, the latest episode of the show that airs on Monday (April 22) will not be brought out early. Typically, viewers who are eager to get the latest instalment of the show will be able to watch the show ahead of its broadcast on BBC One – but this will be halted as editors work to cut the footage and slot it into the programme as quickly as possible.
It comes as bosses at the show beamed with pride for their actor pals as the show took to its Instagram page. Writing in the caption, the show gushed: “Emma Barton and Jamie Borthwick have just completed the London Marathon for an upcoming storyline that will see their characters, Honey and Jay, take on the event in memory of their beloved Lola.
“As well as running on behalf of their chosen charities, Emma and Jamie run parts in character to film various scenes along the route,” the post added. “These scenes will be edited into the main show this evening and viewers will be able to watch the special scenes tomorrow (Monday 22nd April) from 1300 on BBC iPlayer and at 1930 on BBC One.”

Fans of the show will remember the devastating storyline that engulfed the soap after Jay became the carer for his darling wife Lola, who was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme. The tumour was eventually deemed terminal and in heartbreaking scenes that left viewers sobbing, Lola – played by Danielle Harold – passed away, with Jay bereft.
Following Lola’s death, Jay has been determined to keep Lola’s memory alive. As part of the current storyline, Jay had partnered up with pal Honey for the marathon in honour of Lola.

Speaking on the storyline itself, actor Jamie said: “Over the last 18 months, we have seen a storyline where my wife Lola, had developed a brain tumour. We just really tried to make it as real as we could and our lovely boss dropped the idea to us that maybe our characters would run the marathon.”
Similarly, Emma added: “I think it’s a really clever idea that EastEnders have done to show what a lot of the people all over the country are doing. And that’s raising money for their charities or in memory of a loved one.”
