EastEnders blunder in ‘history-making’ episode revealed as fans left cringing

EastEnders viewers have spotted a major flaw in the recent marathon episode.

During Monday’s episode (April 22) the soap included live footage of its stars running the London Marathon on Sunday (April 21). It was a soap first, with the show having just 24 hours to film, edit and include the scenes.

As part of Jay and Honey’s ongoing storyline, actors Jamie Borthwick and Emma Barton took on the challenge of running the 26-mile-long race. The pair were raising money for a number of charities in real life, including ones that focus on brain tumours – the main issue affecting Jay and Emma on the soap currently.

After the episode aired, plenty of viewers applauded the soap for managing to pull it off. However, other viewers pointed out an epic blunder.

Rushing online, fans claimed that Homey and Jay seemed to be in two places at once. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “Yeah but how did they get to the start line in the fictional version?

“It was mid-day sunshine in East London when they were having their pancakes!” they added. Another penned: “EastEnders, right so have pancakes at approximately at 9am on Sunday in E20 in Walford Jay and Honey travelled back in time 5am to travel to Blackheath to get to the start line before 8am?! Stupid!” Before filming the scenes, Honey star Emma said: “It’s pretty exciting, really, because it’s never been done before.

“It’s a massive thing, isn’t it, the marathon? We’re a London-based show and we’re doing something that’s never been achieved before. So it is very exciting, it’s very nerve-wracking.”

The groundbreaking episode ended with Honey and Jay at The Vic – receiving a warm reception. It was then revealed that Honey and Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) got engaged at the marathon.
