Pop icon teases huge chart comeback ahead of ‘busy’ year with ‘loads of plans’

Robbie Williams has teased a huge comeback after admitting he has “loads of plans” for later this year.

The 50-year old last released a new studio album in 2019 – The Christmas Present – a mixture of festive classics and tracks he co-wrote with his industry pals. Last year his self-titled documentary series went down a storm on Netflix, charting his 25 years in music.

Now, the dad-of-four is set release new material, whilst a biopic film is scheduled for release at the end of 2024. Robbie told Virgin Radio: “I’ve got loads of plans. I’ve written loads of songs, I’ve got my film (Better Man) at the end of this year and I’m doing Hyde Park in the summer.

He continued: “I have never been busier, I’ve never been as ambitious as I am right now. I am full of purpose and I am loving life.”

Better Man is being overseen by The Greatest Showman director, Michael Gracey, something the Angels singer describes as “lucky”. With a big budget, the production will partly see a CGI monkey play him.

“Big film companies are putting money into it and lots of big American film companies are putting money into the marketing – they’re talking about awards season,” Rob explained. “I think I am about to get lucky again but I don’t know if I’ll be winning an Oscar.”

Speaking about early plans for the biopic in 2021, Gracey revealed to Deadline it would be done in a “really original way”. He explained: “As for how we represent Robbie in the film, that bit is top secret. I want to do this in a really original way.

“I remember going to the cinema as a kid and there were films that blew me away and made me say as I sat there in the cinema, ‘I’ve never seen this before’. I just want the audience to have that feeling.”

He continued: “It’s so important when they watch this story, and look at the screen, that they literally think, I’ve never seen this before. All I can say is the approach is top secret, but the goal is to generate that feeling I just described. It’s this fantastical story, and I want to represent it in its harsh reality all the way to these moments of pure fantasy.”

The director added that all of Robbie’s songs in the film would be purposely re-sung for the “emotion of the moment” in order to capture the former Take That star’s moments in “the depths of despair” and “where he is emotionally” at every point in time.
