Will Young had an encounter with a major Hollywood icon that as so stressful it still breaks him out in a cold sweat to this day.
The Leave Right Now hitmaker, 45, spilled all about his encounter with Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts at the BAFTAs in Los Angeles, where he was set to perform back in 2007. Appearing on The One Show this week, the star revealed all about the awkward moment alongside Imelda Staunton and hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas.
Will confessed: “I was singing at the LA BAFTAs. She was in the dressing room and I get a bit tongue-tied and I was just looking at her and thinking, ‘Oh God, that’s Julia Roberts’, and all I had in my head was the Pretty Woman theme tune.

“Then she said, ‘You’re the guy from American Idol’ and I said, ‘No, Pop Idol.’ Then I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if it was called Pup Idol and everyone brought their puppies?’”
Even recalling his words left Will red-faced, as he explained: “She just looked at me. I know – it’s really odd! Her assistant just moved her away. I’m actually sweating telling this story. I started sweating and the make-up artist was like, ‘God, you’re sweating quite a lot.’
“And I said, ‘Yeah, I know, I’m fine. It’s just so hot.’ It was just awful. But I think people need to hear these stories.”
Julia isn’t the only celeb Will has had beef – intentional or otherwise – with. He recently slammed X Factor judge Simon Cowell during an appearance on Elizabeth Day’s How to Fail podcast, after Simon branded his 2002 performance of The Doors’ Light My Fire “distinctly average”.
Will said: “I thought if you get a moment then people will remember you. And then I also knew that I really disliked that man. And I’d met him before on the This Morning boy band competition.
“And I remember thinking I really don’t like that man, and I went to a school where I was surrounded by … quite unpleasant men. So, my radar for people who I perceive as unpleasant is quite on. And I just want to be careful. I’m not saying that he’s abusive, but my radar is pretty good. So my reaction was on live TV when I came across him.”

The star went on to confront Simon, telling listeners: “Because I had to sit and watch him make people cry for weeks, building up to my live performance in front of him. And I just thought, ‘no one’s telling this man. Why is no one telling him?’ And so I was like, ‘I’m going to tell him.’”
Thankfully the confrontation went well, and Simon backed down, telling Will: “You are a gentleman, sir,” after he said: “It is your opinion. I don’t agree with it. I don’t think it was average. I don’t think you could ever call that average. But it is your opinion and I respect that.”
