The Bill’s PC George Garfield looks completely unrecognisable now.
Actor Huw Higgerson played the memorable character for a decade from 1989 until 1999 and was known for his full head of hair and clean-shaven look.
However, the former ITV show star, now 60, sports a beard and hardly any hair. During his time as the fictional copper, he had a number of storylines including one revolving around a routine patrol that went awry.

Fans will remember that PC Garfield also become traumatised after he watched his pal Dave Quinnan (Andrew Paul) stabbed by a group of youths. George then found himself in a messy love triangle with Dave’s nurse Jenny Delaney and Dave himself.
Since leaving the show back in 2002, Huw has gone on to appear in other popular shows such as Heartbeat, EastEnders, Casualty, By Any Means and Jessica. The actor relocated to Australia in 2014 and went on to star in numerous television shows and stage productions in Oz.
In 2016, He adopted an Australian accent to play a commander in Meat and Livestock Australia’s controversial Operation Boomerang We Love Lamb Australia Day commercial, part of the organisation’s annual campaign to promote the consumption of lamb.
The following year, it was announced he would appear in Picnic at Hanging Rock, a six-part Foxtel television series produced by FremantleMedia Australia, adapted from Joan Lindsay’s novel of the same name. In 2019 he appeared in a featured role in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation mini-series Total Control and in the film Top End Wedding. More recently he made appearances in prison drama Wentworth in 2021 and last year he was announced for 2024 ABC Series Ladies in Black.
Huw is not the only star from The Bill who looks different from their time on the show. Jeff Stewart, who played Reg Hollis on the ITV series, looks a far cry from his days in Sun Hill station and he was spotted with long hair back in 2021.
Reg’s hairstyle was iconic on the show, always worn slicked back with hair gel, but while out shopping, the actor was pictured with long, grey, curly hair.
