Amanda Abbington moving on from Strictly ordeal by ‘marrying on a farm’

Amanda Abbington is putting her Strictly Come Dancing ordeal behind her by “marrying on a farm”.

The 52-year-old actress famously quit Strictly in October last year citing “medical reasons”. She later revealed, however, that she was suffering from PTSD and reportedly accused her professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice of adapting a “military” approach to their training.

The Sherlock star now hopes there are much happier times ahead as she prepares to tie the knot with fiancé Jonathan Goodwin next year. It comes after she vowed never to do reality TV again after receiving “death threats and rape threats” in the wake of her Strictly exit.

Now, Amanda has revealed she will say ‘I do’ to America’s Got Talent stuntman Jonathan on a farm owned by a pal.

She told OK!: “[It’s] at my friend’s house – she has a lovely farm, so we’re going to do it here in the UK.” Amanda also detailed who we could expect to see in attendance, as she added: “The actress Sue Vincent, who starred in Shameless and Coronation Street, and is my son’s godmother, is going to be my maid of honour. We’ve been friends for over 30 years.”

Not all the detail are set in stone yet, however, after Jonathan suffered serious spinal injuries in a stunt accident in 2021 – just months into their relationship. The incident, which was part of an American’s Got Talent: Extreme show, left him paralysed for life and horrific injuries including the loss of a kidney, broken shoulder blades, shattered legs, a broken spine, and a severed spinal cord.

With plans slowly getting back on track, Amanda admitted: “We don’t know yet [whether it will be a big or small affair]. We’re still planning, and we’re just enjoying him getting well and getting fit and strong again.

“It’s been a rough few months, but we’re trawling back.”

Speaking last week on the Invite Only podcast alongside best friend and Strictly judge Anton Du Beke, Amanda’s ex-dance partner Giovanni said he thought Amanda was good enough to potentially win Strictly in 2023.

“It’s a shame because, in my opinion, she could have gone all the way,” he explained. “I am a perfectionist, 100%, but it comes from a perspective of caring. I think all of the professional dancers are in the same place. In every single part of the world, if you’re a professional dancer on one of these shows, you have to get these people looking the best they can on Saturday night.”
