Corrie’s Bernie star on why she hasn’t split with ‘beautiful’ famous wife after 28 years

Corrie’s Jane Hazlegrove has a rather famous wife – and she reckons there’s a reason why they have lasted nearly 30 years together.

The actress shot to fame playing Bernie Winter on the ITV soap – making her debut in 2019. As the mum of Gemma and Paul, she’s quickly become a firm-favourite with viewers.

And it’s fair to say Bernie has had her fair share of big storylines. From Paul’s battle with MND to a recent prison stint, Bernie’s time in Weatherfield has not been short of drama.

Away from the soap though, Jane is loved-up with her doting soap star wife Isobel Middleton. The pair tied the knot back in 2015 and have been together for over 28 years.

Jane is a firm-favourite on Corrie

In 2019, the blonde beauty spoke about her relationship with the actress on Lorraine. She gushed: “She’s sensational, a really beautiful woman. I am very obsessed.”

Host Lorraine Kelly then asked if the pair had ever worked together on screen. Jane replied: “No, we’ve not no. Which is why I think we’re still together!”

She added: “We relocated back to Manchester last year, before [Corrie]. It was time to get back to the north for all kinds of reasons and that makes me very happy.”

Jane’s wife is also a soap actress

Jane’s wife Isobel is no stranger to appearing on telly screens either. Isobel has played three characters in ITV’s long-running soap Emmerdale over the years.

She took on the role of Dr Lane in 2014, followed by a barrister role during Simon McManus’ 2018 trial. And in 2020, she played Jean Rawson on the soap set in the famous Dales.

But Emmerdale isn’t the only same Isobel has starred in. Back in 2002, she played Sadie Banks on BBC’s EastEnders. And turning her hand to blockbusters, Isobel appeared in 2009’s Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Meanwhile a few years ago, Isobel was on hand to gush over her wife’s achievement at the British Soap Awards.

She shared on X, then known as Twitter: “Very proud that my sublimely talented & hilarious wife has been nominated for Best Comedy Performance at the #soapawards2022 We can’t vote but if I could I would. Repeatedly. #JaneHazlegrove #BernieWinters #Corrie #funnybones.”
