JoJo Siwa has embraced her sexuality with her sudden rebrand – going from a bow-toting Dance Moms star to a sensual sensation seemingly overnight with the release of her single Karma.
The 20-year-old star came out as gay in 2021, and the way she realised? Was when her boyfriend wanted to have sex with her, and she wasn’t feeling it. JoJo confessed on TikTok that Demi Lovato’s track Cool for the Summer, which is about bisexuality, helped her figure out she was LGBTQ+.
She said: “I really, really liked it and I listened to it all the time. I didn’t know what it meant back then but now that I’m much older and I understand it. Then a few years later, Jenna Dewan went on Lip Sync Battle. She did a really great Magic Mike number. I watched it every day.”

On a first date with an unnamed man, JoJo said he “wanted to have sex” but she “did not want to”. She added: “Never wanted to, grossed out by the thought of it, immediately knew men are not my thing, women are my gig, gotta go.”

In April 2024, JoJo stepped out in Los Angeles to visit the Romantix Sex Shop in Sherman Oaks with a pal. She came out clutching a black carrier bag and a huge stuffed toy penis, which she cradled close under one arm. With doors that clearly stated 18+ Only, JoJo didn’t seem fazed by the saucy outing.
She rocked a tank top with the words “Karma is a b*tch” in reference to her new song, and climbed into a car emblazoned with pictures of her face all over it, and the word JoJo over the driver’s side door. JoJo opted for comfy mint green sweatpants and lace-up sneakers for the outing, swiping her blonde hair up into a high ponytail.

JoJo confessed being in the public eye means she can’t romp in bathroom stalls like “normal” teenagers, and instead has to keep things confined to the bedroom. Appearing on the We’re Having Gay Sex podcast, she said: “I don’t know really what normal teenagers do, but I’m assuming – a bathroom stall – whatever. But because of who I am, I can’t do that.
“It’s wacky. It’s weird, it’s confusing, it’s hard for me, it’s hard for the person I’m dating or talking to, because I can’t do things. How most people can go on a dinner date, I can’t go on a dinner date, normally. I can, but I have to call and say ‘I’m JoJo Siwa, can I have a private table in a private room?’ and it’s great.”
Butt-dialling dad

In one extremely awkward encounter, JoJo says she accidentally phoned her dad right in the middle of sex. She told podcast host Ashley Gavin: “It’s my third night with this partner. It’s really fun, I’m happy, I’m having the time of my life. Cut to the next day and my dad comes up to me and goes, ‘So you guys had fun last night.’
“My parents are very supportive. And I have a lot of my dad in me, I’m very comfortable with my parents – but not that comfortable. He goes, ‘Oh, I heard’. But we were not loud. Our rooms are far apart. I can scream and you wouldn’t hear me. So I’m like, ‘What?’ and he was like, ‘Last night you called me!’”
JoJo’s dad told her: “After about five seconds I realised that you were having sex and I hung up the phone so fast.”

Reassured, Ashley said: “For a second there it sounded like he was going to be hanging out on the line!” as Jojo screeched: “Oh god, no!”
Ashley’s co-host Maddie Wiener couldn’t resist quipping: “He thinks you’re in trouble, he picks up the call and he’s like, ‘She’s drowning!’ Oh my god!” as JoJo interjected: “Well, she kinda is!” Maddie quipped back: “Why does it sound like JoJo is only breathing out of one nostril?!”
JoJo now has a strict bedroom rule – no phones, ever. She said: “So now I have a rule that no matter what, phones are put to the side because I butt dialled my dad. Before anything happens, where’s your phone? ‘Cause if things start heating up, we put them to the side.”

On the same podcast, JoJo said she struggles with being the partner on top. She warned: “If you have listened to any of my kids’ music in the last week, leave now! I have never topped. I knew what I liked but I have never done what I like to somebody else. So I asked this friend, ‘Got any advice?’ Because topping is hard!
“For me, some days I’m feminine, some days I’m masculine. If I’m to be with a feminine girl, I would feel like it would be right for me to top. But if I’m with a masculine girl – I did not know how to be a dom femme. But this friend did.”
