Dannii Minogue breaks down in tears as she confesses ‘I identify as queer’

Dannii Minogue was overcome with emotion as she announced that she “identifies as queer” during the launch of her new gay dating show, I Kissed a Girl.

The star, who previously hosted the award-winning BBC3 series I Kissed a Boy, expressed her disbelief at the lack of dating shows for lesbian and bisexual women in the UK until 2024. “This is so important,” she emphasised.

“There hasn’t been a show for the girls in the reality gay dating world. It’s like we need this to happen. I’m hoping that there are parties up and down the country.”

In the first episode, viewers will witness the 10 single ladies being paired off by the show’s researchers, sharing a poolside kiss before uttering a single word. The contestants then embark on a journey to find out if they share chemistry or if they need to continue their search for love among the other participants.

As the series progresses, five additional women will be introduced into the stunning Italian Masseria, adding an extra layer of intrigue, reports the Mirror.

During the series launch, Dannii, 52, was praised for her understanding of the terminology used to categorise different types of gay women, such as “femme”, “stem” and “masc”. She boldly stated: “I identify as queer in a weird way.”

In the premiere episode, a member of the band, Amy from Surrey, admits that Dannii is “just my type” and it’s apparent the rest of the group share similar sentiments. When asked about her feelings towards them, the Australian stunner, infamous for her decade-long romance with musician Adrian Newman, quips: “You girls are hot. You know it. I love it. I’m here for it. Is that an answer?”

She opens up about her aspirations for the transformative series bagging more honours. “I want this to go well, obviously. Everybody’s put everything on the line. I hope there are more series of this show, and more girls get the opportunity to have this experience.”

On the brink of tears, she acknowledges: “You girls are so brave and amazing and have brought so much to it. I could never do what you have done. I will always be in awe of what has happened and what we’ve created. I feel so proud. You’re stepping forward, and you’re the first crew of girls representing in this space, and it is big.”

This dynamic line-up of contestants aged between 22 and 28 hail from across the UK, boasting a diverse extravaganza of talents including a footballer, a fire-eater, a culinary wizard doubling as a drummer and a publishing executive embarking on her maiden voyage of a romantic relationship with another girl.

Former X Factor star Dannii is buzzing about the new 10-episode series, hoping it’ll catch the eye of a diverse crowd – and that includes straight folks too. She spilled the beans: “There’s a curiosity, right? Whether you are a lesbian or not. Who’s going to be in the casting? Who’s going to be paired with who? What are they like? Will they represent me? Do I see myself? A million questions and guess what? The straights have the same million questions.

“The best thing that can happen to this show is that everyone watches it, and everyone has questions. Everyone learns something. Everyone moves forward.”

The Aussie beauty also confessed that her role as the show’s glam host doesn’t exactly let her play matchmaker. She joked: “I don’t get to do a lot. I think I just drop bombs – and then swan off and try not to trip over my dress.”
