This Morning star credits ‘lots of vodka’ and ‘loving job’ for ageless appearance

Gok Wan has opened up about what keeps him looking so damn young – and we were surprised.

The fashion guru, 49, claimed there are some secrets behind his impressive look. He puts his youthful attributes down to one of two things, vodka and his job.

He told Daily Star: “Lots of vodka, lots and lots of vodka, and I do love my job and what I do. So that kind of keeps you young.

“I feel very proud of myself and what I’ve achieved. I’ve had the most incredible career and hopefully, fingers crossed, it will continue.

“But there have been some absolutely magical moments where you just think to yourself, ‘Wow’. I mean, I’m from Leicester and I worked in my dad’s takeaway until I moved to London. You know, I shouldn’t have been designing clothes for pop stars. It’s just bizarre.”

Gok has been working on ITV’s This Morning for the past decade and he shared what it’s really like to work on the show. He claimed it was “such a lovely place to work” but has doubted his own talents.

He said: “I’ve hosted the show in the past alongside Rylan, Rochelle and Amanda and people like that. And I like it, I just don’t think I’m very good at it.

“If I’m honest, I’ve never described myself as a TV presenter, I’m a broadcaster. I can broadcast quite well, I know my subject matters, whether it’s clothes or food or music or whatever.

“I can talk about stuff quite freely and I’m quite confident in front of the camera but I’m not a TV presenter and I never have been. I’ve always been an expert booked to talk about what I do. The few times I’ve been booked as a TV presenter, I’ve kind of walked away and gone ‘Hmm, I wonder why they did that?’

“But I play up to my strengths and I do as much for the show as I possibly can because I love working there. But it has been 10 years, it’s been a long time to work on the same programme. But it’s just a been lovely place to work for.”

They loved working together on the campaign

Gok has also been busy promoting JD Williams’ new midlife fashion campaign. Telling us more about the project, he said: “I’ve been working with JD Williams this year, which has been a match made in heaven. They asked me to come on board for their midlife campaign, but midlife had a very positive way. When we often think about midlife, we think of midlife crisis, we go midlife terror. But actually, it’s not about that. It’s about embracing your experiences, the wisdom that you found over the years getting to know your body, getting to know your clothing, your style.

“I got to work with Judi Love who we know is a great comic and this woman and Helen Skelton who of course is from Country File and Blue Peter. I got the opportunity to dress them and talk to them about juggling careers and children and being on screen being on stage and just what it feels like to dress yourself. It was a fun super campaign that resonated very well with the audience and a lot of people not only existing JD Williams customers, but also hopefully new customers as well.”

JDWilliams.co.uk has partnered with TV personalities Judi Love, Gok Wan and Helen Skelton as part of a new campaign aimed at challenging misconceptions surrounding midlife women and celebrating their relevance, roles, and individuality. This collaboration introduces two distinct edits curated by fashion expert Gok, tailored specifically for Judi and Helen based on their unique styles, body shapes, and personalities. Each item of clothing is available online now in sizes 8 to 32.
