Amanda Holden was left open-mouthed after finding out Britain’s Got Talent turned down a future chart-topping singer.
The TV favourite, 53, has been a regular on the ITV show since its first series in 2007. And over the years, she has witnessed some incredible talent.
The likes of Paul Potts, George Sampson, Diversity all found fame on the competition show. And who could forget Susan Boyle during her stint on the show in 2009.

And on Saturday (May 4) the show returns for another batch of auditions with Amanda, along with Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli, looking for the next big star in the UK.

But it turns out there was one mega famous face that Britain’s Got Talent turned away from auditions – and Amanda didn’t even realise.
Back in 2019, Lewis Capaldi appeared on Heart Radio – where he revealed the show snubbed him – despite auditioning. The 27-year-old Scottish singer is one of the UK’s biggest singers, having shot to fame in 2018 thanks to his single Someone Like You.

That tune ended up breaking a record in 2020 for the longest-running top 10 UK single of all time by a British artist. Lewis has since bagged a further four number one singles, as well as three Brit awards.
Speaking to Amanda in 2019, Lewis told her: “I did go on Britain’s Got Talent. I went to the auditions, and I went up and I sang White Blank Page by Mumford & Sons.
“And I went on and they said to me, they said to me Amanda, ‘Oh Lewis that was so great, that was lovely, we loved that’ and I said, “Thank you so much for saying that”.

Lewis went on: “And then I got a phone call saying, ‘Lewis that was great we’re going to put you through, and we’re going to try and hurry it through.’ Then I never received another phone call again.”
Judge Amanda was left with her jaw on the floor at Lewis’ revelation. She gasped: “OMG we turned down Lewis Capaldi!”
Lewis then cheekily joked: ‘What they actually said to me, they said to me ‘Amanda Holden saw your audition tape and she hates you, on a molecular level she despises you.’” Laughing, Amanda replied: “Can you imagine.”
