Craig David hasn’t had sex in two years after admitting he ‘had to pull back’

Craig David admitted he’s been abstaining from sex for two years so that he can focus on ‘sorting out his issues’.

The 43-year-old singer, who is gearing up for another global tour, previously shared why he’s been avoiding intimacy. He confessed he wanted to ‘his own issues’ in the hopes that he can form more meaningful relationships, reports the Mirror.

Thanks to his celibacy, Craig claims he’s been feeling more creative than ever and is constantly in the studio. He explained: “I just felt that I was at a stage in my life where I’ve had my fill of the rock and roll lifestyle and not being grounded.

“There was no set timeframe for this, I wasn’t thinking how long can we keep this up? Or am I going to be celibate until marriage? It didn’t get that serious.”

“Then all of a sudden it just carried on and I thought, my energy is so electric right now that I’m just going to wait,” the star added to TMZ. “It has been really beneficial for me because man, the music in the studio, the creativity, it’s like, no drama just good vibes!”

During his appearance on Louis Theroux’s podcast, the Rise And Fall singer said he hoped that the break from sex would allow him to mentally gear up to meet his future partner. He explained: “I realised that me not having sorted out my own issues meant I was never truly open to someone else.

“So I realised I had to pull back from all of this and this has been the past couple of years really. Which does mean not outwardly going on dates, the sexual interactions are going to have to stop now, just cut that off.”

Craig confessed that his string of flings was down to his fear of getting hurt in a serious relationship. This stems from a two-week intense fling at 16 that left him emotionally scarred.

He confessed: “I had never felt anything like that before. My heart kind of closed down.” Despite the personal drama, Craig’s been smashing it with gigs and new tunes lately.

He was set to hit the stage in Las Vegas for Usher’s Lovers and Friends festival this weekend. But Mother Nature had other plans and the event got axed last minute due to some proper dodgy weather.

It comes after the beloved DJ confessed he still battles with imposter syndrome and body image. The Southampton favourite revealed that he was bullied on a “national level” when he appeared on Bo’ Selecta.

The show ran for seven years on Channel 4 and David was one of the several celebrities mocked through a racist caricature. He told BBC News: “The bullying was happening now on a national level.

“I was experiencing that same feeling that I had when I was the kid at school It reinforced the same thing I hadn’t dealt with as a trauma as a kid.” Want all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox? Sign up for our free Daily Star Showbiz newsletter.
