Netflix’s Wednesday season 2 cast released as Billie Piper joins spooky line up

Wednesday season two will include some familiar faces.

Filming has begun production in Ireland and many new cast members will be joining the spooky series, including Doctor Who icon Billie Piper, Steve Buscemi, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter and Noah Taylor, who are all set to become “new series regulars”.

New guest stars also include Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton and Haley Joel Osment to name a few. The show’s creators Al Gough and Miles Millar released a statement ahead of filming: “We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces.”

The series is the the most popular English TV series on the streaming platform Netflix, with a whopping 252.10 million views for season one alone since it was released back in 2022. Tim Burton, the genius behind films such as Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and Alice in Wonderland, is the show’s director and executive producer.

Wednesday is a coming-of-age series with elements of comedy, mystery and of course the supernatural. Jenna Ortega stars as the main character Wednesday, who is based on the iconic daughter from The Addams Family.

Addams becomes embroiled in a murder mystery at her new school after she was expelled for setting live piranhas free to terrorise the water polo team who were bullying her brother. She is sent to Nevermore and the series follows the events that take place as she tries to unravel the secrets after she discovers she has psychic powers, just like her mother Morticia.

Filming took place in Romania between September 2021 and March 2022, while the second series is set to be recorded in Ireland this year. Within three weeks of the show’s release back in 2022, it shot up to the top spot as the second most watched English language series on Netflix.

Since then, Wednesday has been nominated for two Golden Globes and won four Primetime Emmy Awards. Jenna has previously said that while filming, she became “unprofessional”: “There were times on that set where I even became almost unprofessional, in a sense, where I just started changing lines […] I grew very protective of [Wednesday] […]”
