EastEnders Stevie Mitchell actor had role on soap years before rocking up as Billy’s dad

EastEnders’ Stevie Mitchell actor had a role on the BBC soap years ago.

The character, played by Alan Ford, first debuted earlier this year at the funeral of Aunt Sal who passed away offscreen. He was warned away by Phil Mitchell, who was determined to keep him away from his cousin Billy. After fleeing, the character made his comeback this week, leading to emotional scenes with Billy.

Stevie is Billy’s father, making him grandfather to Will and Janet Mitchell and Lexi Pearce’s great-great-grandfather. He is cousin to Phil’s late father Eric Mitchell, and late uncle Archie Mitchell.

As for Alan, this is his second role on EastEnders with him previously playing Mr Sangers in 1986. Other roles on hit TV shows include Doctors, Unforgotten, Casualty, Hotel Babylon, The Bill, Grange Hill, and Birds of a feather, while his film roles include Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Speaking about joining the coveted BBC cast Alan, 85, previously said: “I feel highly delighted to be playing a character close to my own age in this extremely popular television drama series.”

Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw added: It’s an honour to welcome the immensely talented Alan Ford to the cast of EastEnders as he takes on the role of Stevie Mitchell.

“Whilst Billy has been a stalwart in the show for over 25 years, viewers know very little about his complicated childhood and the events that led him to grow up in care.

“Alan arrives in Walford as the Mitchell family prepare to say goodbye to their beloved Aunt Sal but it soon becomes apparent that he is not welcome in the family fold.”

Prior to his EastEnders stint, fans may recognise Alan from his work with Hollywood legend Brad Pitt. In addition to sharing the screen with the Hollywood legend on Lock, Stock and Two smoking Barrels, Alan has also worked on a series of well-known soaps including The Bill.
