Eurovision winner Cheryl Baker has revealed the one thing Olly Alexander needs to change to win the upcoming song contest.
On Tuesday (May 7), the 33-year-old Years and Years hitmaker took to the stage for the first time to perform his catchy song Dizzy. The It’s A Sin star will be representing the UK in the upcoming competition with the dance single this weekend.
Olly gave fans a taste of what they can expect on the big night, but the reactions to the track were incredibly mixed – with some already claiming his chances of winning are slim. Now Cheryl, who won Eurovision in 1981 as part of the band Bucks Fizz, has shared her thoughts on what the singer needs to do to improve his act.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star on behalf of Heart Bingo, she shared what she loves about the tracks – and what could be improved. She gushed: “See Olly, I know what it’s like when you’re leading up to the Eurovision.
“I know how many rehearsals there are so he’s going to be rehearsed to the eyeballs. I know that so there no worries there, he’s going to do a fantastic performance. I’m absolutely sure of it.
“I think the production and everything about Dizzy is great. I love the dancers, I love the fact that it seems to rotate when it doesn’t really and all that stuff but I think it’s wonderful and I love his voice.”
It was at this point that the star confessed that the song needs to be more musically extravagant to steal the crown this year. Cheryl confessed: “I just think that Dizzy isn’t a strong enough song to win Eurovision. I think it’s chart-worthy.
“I think it will do very well in the charts, but if I could say to him make this one change I would say give us a couple of key changes. Because in those three minutes you just need it to be not only visually exciting, but you need it to be musically exciting.
“So it just needs to lift because at the moment it has the same key all the way through to the end. I know [key changes] has been done and done and done but the reason it’s been done and done and done is because it works.
“So it needs to lift and it needs a key change or two or even three,” she suggested. His hit song Dizzy is the first single Olly has written solo and features some impressive stage production to wow viewers on the night.
But it’s fair to say viewers were divided over the first look at the performance earlier this week after he took to the stage in the Swedish city of Gothenburg for the event’s semi-finals. Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – many believes the star was “off-key” and “out of tune”.
Meanwhile others argued the singer struggled to performed to his usual standard due to his mic pack falling off mid-performance. Despite his setback, the singer was all smiles when he caught up with Lorraine Kelly on Wednesday (May 8).
As she told the Eurovision hopeful his song Dizzy is a “banger,” he said: “This whole Eurovision experience is wild. Last night was amazing. It was the first time performing in the arena and on TV.
“It was just… yeah it was amazing. I had a slight wardrobe malfunction – my mic pack fell off – and I had to improvise but that’s fine – it’s live TV, it happens.”
The Eurovision Song Contest airs this weekend on BBC One
