Love Island shake-up as ‘axed’ show ‘revived’ by ITV ahead of new summer series

Love Island fans are in for a treat as ITV2’s spin-off show, Aftersun is reportedly set to make a comeback on the new series.

Earlier this year, viewers were left disappointed when the popular companion show was axed for the first ever Love Island: All Stars season. It saw previous contestants return to the South African villa for another shot at love and Molly Smith and Tom Clare crowned winners.

However, due to the filming location being on the other side of the world, host Maya Jama, 29, chose to stay near the set instead of flying back to host the UK-based spin-off. Aftersun has always been a hit with fans, as it gives Maya the opportunity to interrogate evicted islanders while celebrity pals join the panel to discuss the villa’s happenings and interact with the contestants.

Therefore, fans will be overjoyed to learn that Aftersun will reportedly return for the upcoming new season. The eleventh season of Love Island is set to grace our screens next month.

A fresh batch of singletons will jet off to the Spanish island of Mallorca, where the series is filmed – making it easier for host Maya to commute between Spain and the UK to fulfil her filming responsibilities. A source revealed to The Sun: “Viewers didn’t love the change though and really missed Maya fronting the Sunday night spin-off, so bosses are definitely bringing it back for the regular series.

“Logistically, it makes sense to have it back too as Maya stayed in Cape Town for the whole of the All Stars run, whereas she will be flying back and forth between the Mallorca villa where the summer series films, and London where Aftersun records.”, reports the Mirror.

In addition, they also shared: “Producers are already reaching out to agents to book guests for the first few shows of the new series when it returns in June.”

ITV ruled out the suggestion that Aftersun had been cancelled for the All Star’s season and instead clarified that the show was merely on hold while filming took place in South Africa. A spokesperson formerly explained: “Aftersun is not happening in its traditional form as Love Island: All Stars is a separate series to Love Island.

Instead interviews will take place outside the Villa so it looks and feels different to the regular show.” The highly-anticipated eleventh season will kick-start on Wednesday 5 June and that viewers can expect to enjoy the romance-filled drama for the following eight weeks.
