Singer Eden Golan was filmed in floods of tears after performing for Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest.
This year’s event – which was held in Malmo, Sweden – was rocked by political tension as not everyone was happy about Israel being included. In the run-up there had been calls for the country to be banned from taking part over the ongoing conflict in Gaza, and not long before the final thousands of pro-Palestine protestors gathered in Malmo to support Gaza.
Eden, 20, was said to be staying in her hotel when she wasn’t performing and there were apparently armed police outside. But she looked calm and collected as she went on stage to perform her track Hurricane during the grande finale on Saturday (May 11).

Her performance was met with both cheers and boos, with the UK’s commentator Graham Norton saying it was a “mixed” reaction. But he also noted that the song was predicted to do well, adding: “At the open rehearsals we heard more booing, but we heard a lot of cheering tonight as well.”
A clip from behind the scenes has now showed Eden sobbing backstage after she sang. The star had tears running down her face as her team flocked around her, offering her water and congratulating her on the show.
Smiling, with tears still flowing down her face, Eden held her hands over her face. At one point, she appeared to exclaim: “Wow!”
In the end, Israel wasn’t one of the high scorers when it came to the jury vote. It picked up 52 points, which was far behind eventual winner Switzerland’s 365 points.
However, it was a different story when the audience vote came in, with the Israeli entry awarded 323 points, including 12 from the UK. The score was enough to give Israel fifth place in the competition.
It was a different story for the UK’s entry Olly Alexander. The Years And Years star failed to make much of a mark with his song, Dizzy, when it came to the jury vote, racking up 46 votes. It was hoped he could turn things around with the audience vote but when that rolled in he ended up getting what even Eurovision stars dread – “nul points”.
Olly ended up finishing in 18th place in this year’s song contest, out of 25 acts.
