Coronation Street’s viewers are in for another explosive week on the famous cobbles.
As ITV fans will recall, Simon Barlow, played by Alex Bain, has battled with alcoholism ever since his father Peter (Chris Gascoyne) left the street. And at the start of this week, Simon wakes up hungover again and admits he remembers little about the previous day as Nick (Ben Price) and Toyah (Georgia Taylor) share worried looks.
Nick explains to Rowan (Emrhys Cooper) how there was involving Simon and he needs to speak to Leanne (Jane Danson) urgently but Rowan’s dismissive which angers him. Rowan suggests to Simon they chat as he knows what it’s life to drift through life without direction.

Later on in the week, Simon readies to leave for the retreat, despite Nick and Toyah trying their best to talk him out of it. In desperation, Nick calls Peter. Later on that night, Toyah returns home to find Simon unpacking his bag as he shares his exciting news.

After speaking with his absent father, the hunk tells Toyah that Peter has offered him a job on the yacht. Surprised at the good news, Toyah pulls him in for a hug as they discuss his new adventure.
Towards the end of the week, Carla (Alison King) admits to Sarah that she misses Peter. Stumbling into their conversations, Simon shows her some pictures of her husband with his arm around another woman.
The brunette beauty can’t help but recoil as she shares her shock that he has moved on so quickly. Viewers will have to stay tuned to see how she will get her own back.

It comes after the soap star shares his heartache for leaving the role after 16 years in Weatherfield. The actor has played Simon Barlow since he was just seven years old.
As the son of Peter Barlow, he made his debut in 2008 and has been on the cobbles ever since. During his time on Corrie, Alex has been involved in several dramatic and memorable storylines.
His character has found himself up to no good countless times on the show including drug dealing and abusing his step-up Leanne Battersby. He’s also scooped up a slew of awards over the years for his portrayal of Simon.
However, in December last year, it was reported that Alex was quitting the soap after 15 years. Taking to his Instagram Story in April, Alex shared a selfie from his dressing room at Corrie.

He captioned the post: “I can’t believe this is nearly over! I am going to miss this place so dearly!” A source told The Sun last year: “Alex is sad to be leaving Coronation Street because it really is like a family – but he realises that the time is right to move on.
“He’s very excited about the future and other opportunities.” The publication also stated that Alex will bow out with an “explosive storyline this summer.” Alex’s departure will follow his on-screen father’s exit, who recently left the show after 23 years of playing Peter Barlow. He made a heartbreaking exit from the cobbles at the end of the year after killing Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).
