GMB’s Susanna Reid floored as Ed Balls tells viewer to ‘get eating’ after weight loss

Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid was left in awe of her co-host Ed Balls after he told a viewer to “get eating”.

Susanna, 53, returned to the ITV show on Wednesday (May 15) to present the programme, together with former politician Balls, 57. Together, the pair ran through the main headlines that were getting people talking over the course of the day.

Among the stories that was being discussed on the show was the potential for a new government-led scheme to help people lose weight. The story involved a study which looked at paying money to those as an incentive to drop the pounds in order to gain some.

In practice, someone’s local GP would be responsible for the £400 remuneration for the drive to lose weight. The study initially focused on men who were given cash as the driving force, but were now looking at trying it exclusively with women.

As the show went to a commercial break, while the local and regional news teams delivered their own reports, Susanna gave a taste of what was to come on the programme. One of the topics that would be covered was the financial motivation to lose weight, and called on viewers to get in touch with their thoughts.

Many fans watching the show at home already had some strong opinions on the potential scheme. However, of those who did reach out, many were supportive of the idea and wished they had known about it before embarking on their own fitness journey.

Ed then read out a comment from a couple of viewers who sent a message into the show. “Someone on X says, ‘As a fat guy, defo! Yep yep yep! How much do we get?'” Balls read out.

He then went on to give out a second comment from a man named Martin. “‘I lost 10 stone and NOW you’re telling me that I could have been paid for it?!'” Ed beamed.

Ever the witty character, Ed responded: “Martin, get eating. Then you can go around again,” leaving Susanna to be completely shocked as she let out an awkward laugh in her reading of Ed’s comment.

However, trying to steer the conversation back to positivity, Reid asked: “How much did he lose again? 10 stone? Blimey!”

Ed added an extra cheeky dig: “I tell you, you’ll need more than £400 to get that far.” But Susanna was having none of it, beaming with pride for Martin: “It doesn’t matter about the £400, that is an absolutely phenomenal achievement; 10 stone, well done!”

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
