He exclusively told us how TV bosses scouted him and offered him a chance to appear on the show. Recalling the audition process, Axel explained: “There’s two parts to the audition process.

“There’s one where you queue up and you tell them who you are and why you’d like to apply. And then the second part is where they scout for people and they ask you if you want to perform on BGT.

“So I was in the scouting process, and I think they must have seen me perform somewhere.” It was at this point that the TV star confessed he initially turned down their offer to perform on the show.

He went on: “At first I said no to be fair because I was scared. At first I said, ‘No, nah I’m alright’. And then after a while and talking it through with my missus and stuff I said, ‘Alright. What’s the worst that can happen? Let’s go for it’.”

Despite agree going ahead with the audition, he confessed he kept his wife in the dark until after he received the Golden Buzzer. The comic continued: “I didn’t actually let my missus know that I went for it.

“I spoke to her, but I didn’t tell her what my decision was. So I just went to the auditions without her knowing that I was going to do the audition. I just kept her in the dark in case it went wrong.”
