Annie Jones took a break from Neighbours for 16 years.
The 57-year-old actress played ‘Plain Jane Superbrain’ Harris between 1986 and 1989 but she put her career on hold for almost two decades to care for her poorly mum, who had Alzheimer’s.
She left the soap to pursue an international career like a several of her co-stars but gave it all up to care for her parent, who sadly died in 2016. She previously told The Mirror: “I left just after Kylie and Jason, it was my decision. I just wanted to do other things, join other shows and do other jobs. A great number of actors had gone on to do amazing things after Neighbours.

“I don’t regret it. It’s probably made me a better person in many ways. I think you learn from the stuff that life throws at you, that’s what it’s all about, life experiences.” Anyone who has had anything to do with Alzheimer’s or dementia will know what it’s like. It’s heartbreaking, seeing someone disappear before your eyes.” In the show, Jane famously left Erinsborough to care for Mrs Mangel, her grandmother, played by Vivean Gray.
Since returning to Erinsborough four years ago, Annie’s charatcer Jane has made it clear that there was no love lost between her and her ex-husband, Victor Stone. Having split up while the pair were living in the UK, Jane has forged ahead with a life that doesn’t have her ex in it until now. Victor (Craig Hall) recently appeared in Erinsborough and back in the lives of Jane and their two children Nicolette (Hannah Monson) and Byron (Xavier Molyneaux).
It was a shock for both Jane and Byron, but for Nicolette, it was a pleasant surprise and it’s clear the newcomer is hiding something. When he turned up on the doorstep of No. 24, the house owned by Jane’s absent fiancé Mike Young (Guy Pearce), it’s wasn’t exactly the welcome he expected but he was also aware that he wouldn’t be welcomed with open arms.
It soon became clear that he’s going through money troubles and he reached out to his son and asked whether he could temporarily move into No. 32 with him, whilst he navigates his way through his cashflow problems. Fans will have yo wait and see how the family deal with Victor being back in their lives.
