Strictly Come Dancing pro turned off dating apps after blokes’ weird request

Strictly Come Dancing star Katya Jones has ditched dating apps – because she is sick of men asking her for dancing lessons.

The 35-year-old Russian, who expected to feature in her ninth series of the BBC’s celebrity ballroom dancing show this autumn, has been single since she split with fellow Strictly pro Neil Jones in 2019. She said she had been unimpressed with fellas she has met on apps.

“I’m on Hinge, I’ve been on Raya – it’s all rubbish,” she said. “It’s just s*** chat-up lines. The worst is when they go, ‘oh, can you teach me how to dance?’ That type of thing.”

She said asking for dance lessons is an “instant no”. Katya split from her co-star husband Neil after she was famously caught kissing her partner from the show Seann Walsh in an alleyway in 2018.

Still single Katya is keen to be a mum and now looking into freezing her eggs as she struggles to find Mr Right. “My friend spoke about it and I have looked into it,” she said. “I want to know a lot more.”

At the time of her snog with Seann, both appeared on BBC spin-off show It Takes Two to apologise for the hurt they had caused their respective partners. At the time, Katya insisted her marriage to Strictly’s Neil was “absolutely fine”, while Seann claimed his five year relationship was not “perfect”.

The comedian told host Zoe Ball: “I think that, obviously I’m sorry for the hurt that I’ve caused. We were getting on well, we were having fun. We had a couple of drinks and made a huge mistake and I regret it deeply.

“I think first of all I would rather not be having to address this publicly, but I feel like I have to. I’m not perfect, far from it. Our relationship wasn’t perfect. That doesn’t mean I wanted it to end the way it finally did.”

Katya added: “I can’t apologise enough to everyone who it hurt and involved. But, the main thing — me and Neil are absolutely fine and that’s what matters to me the most right now and focusing on my job and doing it as professionally I can.”

Seann later tweeted: “In light of the story in today’s newspaper I would like to offer my sincere apologies for my actions. This is no excuse but it was a one-off drunken mistake which I am truly sorry for.”
