Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke reveals why she has to bring underwear to every shoot

Maya Hawke has admitted she brings her own bra to photoshoots because stylists regularly forget to bring underwear suitable for “women with boobs”.

The 25-year-old Stranger Things star opened up about her modelling experience in a recent episode of GQ’s ’10 Things I Can’t Live Without’ series. In her intense interview, the blonde bombshell confessed that she always carries a reliable black bra with her to avoid wearing uncomfortable underwear during shoots.

She explained: “When you’re working in this industry you often have to put on clothes that are not your clothes. People often forget to bring clothes that work for women with boobs, or bras for women with boobs, so I’ve learned that you must bring your own.”

The Robin Buckley star went on to describe her favourite black bra as perfect, supportive and shaping despite having no underwire. She gushed: “This is the perfect bra. It’s perfect.

“It’s supportive. It gives you differentiation and shape. It has no underwire but it doesn’t make that uni-boob effect. It’s just a perfect bra.”

Maya, who is the daughter of Hollywood stars Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, has seen her career skyrocket after being cast in Netflix’s hit series ‘Stranger Things’. After her starring role in the third and fourth series, the actress got to work with several Hollywood icons in Wes Anderson’s film, Asteroid City.

She shared the screen with Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, and Bill Murray, and described the once-in-a-lifetime experience as “intimidating”. On the Backstage podcast, she recalled: “Getting to try something impossible is kind of freeing, you know?

“Versus having to sort of try to master – being asked to do something simple where you’re like, ‘Oh, no, I’m going to mess this up’. I felt that the impossible task that was asked of me was, you know.

“These people are all so intimidating and so talented. So to enter that environment as a new person, as a young person, as a person without that much experience, and to come in with confidence and to not worry that I was going to ruin the film [was hard].

“But I very quickly I realised it was actually impossible [to ruin the film] once I got there, because Wes is so masterful in the orchestral conduction of everything, that you couldn’t ruin it if you tried your hardest.”

It comes after the actress admitted that she broke down in tears during her audition for Inside Out 2. The actor lends her voice to Anxiety in the Pixar animated sequel and explained how she was overcome with emotion because of the “relatable” nature of the story about the emotions of a teenage girl.

She told Empire magazine: “There’s something about this story and these characters that I think really brings fundamental truths about our experience to the surface.

“It’s so relatable, so emotional, so pure, that whether you want to or not, you use what you have and what you’ve been through.”
