Kate Garraway helped by pals to loan new car as she embarks on ‘bitter sweet’ trip

Kate Garraway has been lent a new car by her friends as she grapples with a debt of £1.65m.

The 57-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter is taking a well-deserved break with her family after her “amazing” mates helped her secure a loan for a brand new Volvo.

She shared a video on Instagram showing her and her father packing up the new vehicle before heading off to Cornwall for a family holiday. In the caption, Kate wrote: “We haven’t had a car since Vickie Volvo was stolen and Percy Peugeot had to go back but thanks to some amazing friends who’ve helped me loan a brand new @volvocaruk C90 – I absolutely love it! Not an advert just a passion!”

“Feels like old times with hands on an @volvocars wheel, although bitter sweet as this would have been the perfect car to carry Derek in and out of with plenty of room for a hoist and wheelchair in the back. But I know he would approve and it’s come just in time to take my mum and Dad away on our annual Cornwall trip with ALL the Garraways!”

She humorously added that her father was apprehensive about her driving but relieved that the car alerts them when they are “near an obstacle”. She ended her post by saying she needed to find a name for the new car and wished everyone a good Saturday.

Following the death of her husband Derek Draper, Kate has not only had to cope with emotional distress but also financial difficulties as a grieving widow, reports the Mirror. Despite raking in a hefty pay packet from ITV, Kate has been battling financial woes due to the enormous costs of her late husband’s medical care, which eclipsed her earnings.

On top of her usual expenses and mortgage, she’s been forking out a staggering £16,000 monthly for Derek’s round-the-clock care. The TV star recently opened up about her money troubles, confessing to falling into debt as she struggled with the hefty £16,000-a-month bill for Derek’s 24/7 care, despite taking on much of the caregiving duties herself.

But Kate’s financial nightmare didn’t end there as she was also faced with a whopping £150,000 charge after winding down Derek’s business, Asta Aspera. The Sun reports that she also faced a flat fee of £32,000 plus 40 per cent of any assets recovered from the psychotherapeutic company, which closed with debts totalling £184,096.96.

On top of the business-related outgoings, Derek’s director’s loan account showed a balance of £112,836 at the time of his passing in January. Overwhelmed by these mounting financial pressures, Kate reportedly turned to the experts at Hacker Young for guidance, as a source disclosed to the Mirror: “Kate has made no secret of her financial issues which include Derek’s medical care bills and the collapse of his company. She is now getting the help she needs to help with the tax bill.”
