A Netflix documentary about a “TikTok cult” has sent shockwaves across the world.
Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult follows the dancers who left 7M Films, a management company working with TikTok dancers, and are in a civil litigation with Robert Shinn. The show follows the Wilking sisters, Miranda and Melanie, who achieved huge success online before 2019.
Soon after this, Miranda collaborated with another dancer which led her to discover the Shekinah Church, which had been founded by Shinn. As Miranda began to dive deeper into the teachings, her family grew worried as she distanced herself away from them.

She didn’t attend her grandfather’s funeral and married her now-husband without any of them present. Her family publicly appealed for her to get in contact but Miranda released a statement to The Cut, during which she assured fans she was “not held against her will and has never been a hostage”.

TikTok star Miranda Derrick recently addressed the allegations made in the docuseries and discussed her family’s estrangement. Her family claims she cut them off three years ago after working with 7M and Robert Shinn.

She wrote on her Instagram Story on 4 June: “I love my mom, dad and Melanie and they will forever be a part of my life. The truth is we just don’t see eye to eye at this time. I believe that this documentary is a one-sided story. I gave my life to Jesus Christ in 2020 and asked my family for some space in the very beginning to collect my thoughts and process my new walk I wanted to take with god.”
“My parents and sister are not religious. They immediately called me going to church twice a week a ‘cult’.” She also said that she has “been getting together with them over the past couple years to make amends” as they “move on and work things out as a family”.

According to the social media star, “this documentary has created a further challenge between them” as Miranda “works to overcome this public attack”.
The show’s official Netflix synopsis reads: “After TikTok dancers join a management company and its associated church, unsettling details about the founder and their dark realities come to light.”
