Wildlife SOS star Simon Cowell dies after ‘aggressive’ cancer as tributes pour in

Wildlife SOS star Simon Cowell has sadly died aged 72.

The TV star passed away surrounded by his daughters, partner and dogs on Sunday (June 10) it has been confirmed. His death comes following a diagnosis of an “aggressive” form of lung cancer in 2022.

The conservationist was told by doctors at the time, he could have had “weeks or months” left. Dedicated to rescuing and caring for injured and sick animals, in 1980, he founded the Wildlife Aid Foundation.

On Monday (June 10) a statement was issued on behalf of the foundation. It read: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Simon Cowell MBE, conservationist, founder and CEO of the Wildlife Aid Foundation and presenter of Wildlife SOS.

“Simon passed away peacefully on Sunday (June 9) after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by his daughters, his partner and his dogs. Simon was one of the UK’s most respected conservationists and a passionate advocate for wildlife protection and environmental causes.”

The statement went on: “He dedicated his life to British wildlife and worked tirelessly to ensure countless injured and orphaned animals were given a second chance in the wild through rescue, clinical treatment, and rehabilitation. He campaigned relentlessly to raise awareness of the plight of wildlife and the importance of all species.”

Simon’s fans soon sent in their tributes for the late star. On Instagram, one person said underneath a post of the statement: “Can’t find the words. I feel sad for the world we’ve lost an amazing man.

He was my Hero. Goodnight Sir. WAF will never be the same without you but we will carry on as you would have wanted,” they added.

A second wrote: “I am profoundly sad and heartsick. Such an unselfish, wonderful, amazing man. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.” A third agreed and penned: “What a wonderful man Simon was to so many!

Thank you for working so tirelessly and inspiring so many to help our wonderful creatures. He definitely is the one and only. Thank you Simon. Sending love to all his family.”
