Katie Piper forced to miss own show for second week as she gives ‘sad’ health update

Katie Piper is set to miss her ITV breakfast show for another weekend due to a nasty reaction following an eye operation.

The 40-year-old presenter and activist revealed last Saturday that she had an “unexpected medical procedure” and would be temporarily replaced by Charlotte Hawkins on the couch.

Katie, who suffered severe injuries and lasting scars from an acid attack in 2008, isn’t ready to make a comeback this week, meaning Charlotte, 49, will fill in again for Katie Piper’s Breakfast Show.

An insider spilled to the Mirror: “Katie had quite a bad reaction to this operation, which has left her feeling really poorly. Much as she’d love to be back on the sofa on Saturday, at the moment it’s just not realistic and she acknowledges this.

Katie was forced to miss a second week of her show

“She is concentrating on her recovery so that she can be back to her best as soon as possible. ITV have been really understanding and have said to her that she should take all the time she needs before coming back.”

After bowing out of the show last week, Katie reassured her followers with an Instagram update: “All is well… I hope after some rest I’ll be back in the hot seat next weekend.”

She released a statement on social media

Loads of her celeb mates were quick to offer their support. Good Morning Britain’s own Charlotte sent “sending lots of love”, while Carol Vorderman commented: “Take care wonderful lady. You come first. Telly is just telly. Sending huge loves and respect.”

After countless surgeries to repair the damage inflicted upon her face and eyesight following an attack orchestrated by her ex-boyfriend at the age of 24, Katie established the Katie Piper Foundation to assist individuals living with burns and scars.

A representative for Katie addressed her absence saying: “Katie’s recovery from an eye operation has taken a little longer than expected so sadly she won’t be hosting her Breakfast Show again this week. However, she looks forward to returning for the final episodes of the run next weekend.”
