Gavin and Stacey finale in race against time as James Corden says script isn’t finished

James Corden has revealed the script for Gavin & Stacey’s final episode still isn’t finished.

The star admitted he needs another session with co-writer Ruth Jones to make sure it’s good enough. They face a race against the clock to make sure it’s ready in time for filming.

Speaking on Radio 2, he said: “It’s going to be tight to get it in and delivered. Building that show is like building a Jenga puzzle… cast availabilities and all that.

“It’ll be OK. Ruth and I have to do one last pass and clean up of it. The cast are like, ‘When can I read it?’ We don’t want to really give it to anybody if we feel like we have to make a few trims and adjustments, but I’m really excited to share it with people.”

James and Ruth revealed that Gavin and Stacey was coming back just a few weeks ago. They wrote on social media: “Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James [heart emoji] (sic).

The last festive special, which aired in 2019, pulled in a whopping 18million viewers. It’s said Sheridan Smith has had talks over reprising her role as Smithy’s (James Corden) sister Rudi.

A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: ‘The script for Gavin & Stacey: The Finale includes all of the show’s major players – including Smithy’s sister Rudi. Nothing has been signed and conversations are still very much ongoing – especially as the filming date has not been set.
