Corrie ‘killer’ Calum Lill reveals ‘dodgy’ trait that makes him a perfect telly baddie

Corrie’s Calum Lill has shared his “dodgy” trait that he thinks makes him perfect to play a soap bad guy.

The actor shot to fame this year playing Joel Deering. Despite being introduced as the charming love interest for Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) things have taken a harrowing turn on the ITV soap recently.

Much to the shock of fans, Joel was revealed as Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) mystery attacker last month. Fans will recall the troubled youngster went missing earlier this year and is presumed dead.

Although soap favourite Roy Cropper (David Neilson) was put behind bars for her murder, bent copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) planted Lauren’s DNA in paedophile Nathan Curtis’s (Christopher Harper) van and framed him for the crime – this meant Roy was able to leave prison.

But in reality, viewers learned the truth about Lauren’s disappearance: she was actually beaten to death by sicko solicitor Joel.

Prior to his Corrie stint, Joel actor Calum had roles in Holby City and Brummie soap Doctors. He also played corrupt cop Carlton Smith on Hollyoaks in 2021.

However, most notably, they were all villains. Speaking to Mirror, Calum opened up about getting typecast for the bad guy roles.

The actor has previously played bad guys

He said: “I don’t know what that says about me!” Calum went on: “I must have a dodgy face, because I’ve played a string of bad ‘uns.”

Calum continued: “I’m working so I’m not complaining and villains are obviously great fun, but it would be nice to have a little break from playing baddies at some point and play someone a bit nicer – someone that my grandma would approve of!”

Calum shared a video his gran watching his Corrie episode

Actor Calum shared a clip recently of his beloved grandma watching his character’s killer reveal on the soap. The video has so far been viewed eight million times.

In the clip, Calum could be seen sitting next to his gran Sue watching the episode. After the reveal on the soap, his gran’s mouth dropped. She asked: “You mean to tell me my grandson’s a killer? You battered her! “I can’t believe that. Honest to goodness!”

Calum has also recently gotten engaged. At the weekend, he shared the happy news with his Instagram fan, by uploading a snap of him and his fiancee Roberta. In the caption he wrote: “About time I made an honest woman of her!”
