Bridgerton ‘bringing boobs back’ with busty looks causing lingerie sales to rise

Despite being set in the 1800s, Bridgerton is influencing current lingerie trends with the show’s busty displays.

Thanks to the iconic Netflix show, balconette bras have seen a resurgence in popularity with Bridgerton helping to aid sales of the push up items. Series three was recently released which has coincided with a rising number of lingerie sold by 61 percent.

Today’s fans are after the Regency style silhouette which was popular at the time Bridgerton takes place. A description of the bra’s style reads: “The cup cut is horizontal which creates a lift upwards, like a balcony, but not inwards. Sometimes known as a shelf bra.”

The aim is to “lift the breasts to enhance their appearance, shape and cleavage” and the adorable name literally means “little balcony”. Another meaning behind the design’s clever name is also thought to be that “the bra is not visible from above, as when looking down from a balcony”.

It has been claimed that the balconette bra is “this year’s fastest selling lingerie style” and The Sun has reported that Liz King, from Freemans.com, says “boobs are back”. She explained: “Like so many 90s fashions, push-up bras are back in Vogue with Gen Z shoppers. Meanwhile, balconettes are the choice of shoppers wanting sophisticated and elegant styling.”

To complement the lingerie’s sleek and sexy design, shoppers have also been grabbing high-leg knickers for their collections. Liz said that sales of the fuller coverage underwear have skyrocketed by a third and she explained that “bigger knickers are the perfect counterbalance to balconette bras” because the lingerie “offers control, comfort and a sexy silhouette”.

Wonderbra helped popularised the balconette

The look is reminiscent of a very famous ‘Hello Boys’ 90s advert used to market Wonderbra products at customers looking for a busty new style. In the advertisement, Eva Herzigova wore a slinky black bra with a scalloped hem with a sweet bow in the middle, paired with black lace knickers as she smiled at the ground.

She wore thick eyeliner and styled her hair in a cheeky shoulder length crop while showing off the Wonderbra products back in 1994.
