Famous face behind Joey Essex’s ‘Reem’ song revealed – as it makes chart comeback

Love Island star Joey Essex released ‘Reem’ 12 years ago – but there’s another famous face who worked on it with him.

The catchy tune went viral in 2012 after Joey used his favourite word to make a track. TOWIE fans went wild for the song online, but most of them will be shocked to find out who wrote it.

Phats and Small star Ben Ofoedu, who is also known as Vanessa Feltz’s ex of 16 years, jumped on the track to help Joey write the lyrics. Now, as the tune blows up again – due to Joey featuring on this summer’s Love Island, Ben revealed how the venture first came about.

Ben exclusively said: “I wrote Joey’s song that is going wild again at the moment – I reckon he will possibly have a number one record in a few weeks, as it’s growing and growing with him being on Love Island.

“Funnily enough, I wrote it 12 years ago, I did a lot of bits and pieces with Joey. I wrote it back then and it never came out and was sort of just an internet thing, but now he’s gone onto Love Island, it’s started to go viral again. I think the song comes out on June 28th – so it could go very far. It’s flying up the TikTok viral charts, and more and more people are using it. ”

He added: “Working with him was an absolute joy, he’s very down-to-earth, and totally unaffected by fame and stuff. Joey is a great guy and we met when we worked on Reem. After that, we went on to do an album called Essex Anthems, that went gold. It was a compilation album of all his favourite tunes.”

But how does Ben think Joey is doing on Love Island? Ben answered: “I think he’s doing really well on Love Island, he’s a very honest guy and he knows what he wants. I think he’s going to go far on the show and will definitely get to the final.

“I’d love to see him perform Reem in the Love Island talent show – a lot of fans have been crying out for him to do it on there. So, I think producers will get him to jump on that.”

In other news, Phats and Small stars Ben Ofoedu and Russell Small have returned with a summer smash ‘Jeux Sans Frontières’. The two have not worked together since their last track, the club classic ‘Turnaround’, which came out twenty-five years ago.

The song which Ben is rumoured to be debuting at Superboxx Festiva, at Rochester Castle, on July 6, is a song inspired by the 1980 Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush track ‘Games without Frontiers’. Russell Small says Jeux Sans Frontières (games without borders), refers to the “quest to live life with no limits”.

Ben added: “That was how we made music and lived all those years ago. Some of the greatest songs are created when you don’t limit yourself to a specific genre or agenda. As soon as I saw Russell’s name flash up in my inbox, I knew something special was about to happen.”

The track features the voice of Gabriella Kaye and the smooth co-production work of Dno P and will be released on June, 21.
